As a mentor, Sophia helped students reach their full potential and created a safe space for people to thrive. Now, she uses what she learned to thrive in her college career.

Lion’s Pride gave me a lot of leadership and communication skills. Especially coming into college, I found it easier to talk to my whole class and even lead small group discussions.

What opportunities did Lion's Pride bring to you?

I think one of my biggest things is that it made me more empathetic, and I feel like I’m more intentional with the way I speak to people. I am more conscious of other people’s circumstances before I speak.

How has being a mentor changed your personal life?

My first mentee, Jamie. I still talk to her from time to time. She is in her senior year now, and I met her when she was a freshman, so to see her grow and develop into the woman that she is today has been very nice.

What is your favorite memory from Lion’s pride?

I empower others by staying true to myself. I don’t have everything together, so keeping that transparency. Being like, “When I was struggling, I did this, and I learned this.” I think being transparent and keeping that open, honest communication is how I help people excel in their own way.
