Beyond the Classroom
Lion’s Pride Mentoring: Celebrating the Journey of Our Alumni
Lion’s Pride Mentoring is a peer mentoring program that prioritizes social-emotional and leadership development at various phases. Along with the opportunities presented during regular programming, former students can take advantage of many workshops, mentorships, and internships in their years beyond high school. Three of our former Lion’s Pride students, Darvesha, Adami, and Moussa, exemplify the long-term benefits of being involved in Lion’s Pride.
Darvesha Daniels
Darvesha Daniels began with Lion’s Pride Mentoring as a Little and eventually served as a Big for two years until graduating from Baker College Prep in 2022. Darvesha is currently attending Nothern Illinois University and took on the Summer Administrative Intern role in 2024, where she gained invaluable experience in organizational and administrative tasks. During this internship, she also worked tirelessly to launch a vending machine business. Darvesha’s commitment to personal and professional growth has been an inspiring journey.
Adami Anota
Adami Anota is another inspiring alumni of Lion’s Pride Mentoring. They served as a Big in 2022 at UIC College Prep. Following graduation, Adami pursued higher education at Harold Washington University. Adami has also served as a photographer for the 2024 annual trivia night, bringing their creative talents to the forefront. Their dedication to capturing moments and stories has helped enrich the overall experience for participants and attendees alike.
Abdoullaye “Moussa” Doucoue
Abdoullaye “Moussa” Doucoure also exemplifies the benefits of the Lion’s Pride program through his active participation in various workshops and events. He served as a big in the early program days of Baker College Prep in 2020 and also went on to attend Western Illinois University. He participated in the partner workshop for Business Chemistry as a part of Deloitte Impact Day in June 2023. In August 2023, he returned as a college panelist for our College Ready workshop, sharing his experiences and insights with the newest alumni heading into higher education. His willingness to give back and guide others reflects the essence of the Lion’s Pride community.
Through these stories of Darvesha, Adami, and Moussa, it’s clear that Lion’s Pride Mentoring continues to foster growth, development, and strong connections among its participants. The program not only impacts immediate lives but also creates a ripple effect that benefits future generations.
