As a parent to someone who is in the Lion’s Pride program, Cindi has been able to watch her daughter gain the necessary skills and confidence needed to thrive socially and academically.
For me as a parent, it enhanced her leadership skills. We’ve always told Sophia that she was a leader, and this program helped her enhance those skills. She has been able to pass on information that she learned to others.
How did Lion’s Pride Mentoring impact your life?
Lion’s Pride is an empowering program that is actually reaching our young people where they are and allowing them to actually be who they are going to be. They help them see they can achieve anything in life.
How would you summarize this program in a few sentences?
What made you believe that Lion’s Pride was the right choice for Sophia?
It allowed Sophia to be in her education environment, but still be able to receive advice. I think that being a mentor is not just about giving. It’s about receiving. It allowed her to see that she has the capability of being involved in someone else’s life.
In the places she was hesitant, it made her push forward. It made her step forward and shine, and not be afraid to shine that light. I think that was really something big. I saw her take responsibility and leadership: getting up on time, getting herself together, following through, keeping her word. All of those things an adolescent brain doesn’t necessarily think of.
