Jasmine Gilstrap Hunter

Jasmine co-founded the Lion’s Pride program with Sean Healy in 2017 and helped to transition the program into a nonprofit in September 2019. Jasmine previously served as a mathematics instructor at Baker College Prep, advising two groups of young women and the Baker French Club. Jasmine received a Bachelor's in Psychology from Rhodes College and was inducted into the Rhodes Hall of Fame. Jasmine was a 2017-18 Chicago Sky High School Educator of the Year nominee and a recipient of the Educator of Semester Award at Baker College Prep in 2020. In 2024, Jasmine completed the Surge Institute Fellowship, a prestigious leadership development program that supports leaders of color.
Prior to teaching at Baker, Jasmine served as a Citizen Schools Teaching Fellow and Regional Program Lead in Chicago, where she nurtured her passion for restorative justice and leveraging student strengths. Jasmine continues to use restorative justice practices to guide her instructional practices and include student voices in all her work to authentically and holistically educate and empower the students she serves.
